Engagement Scope

The Sutor Group was engaged by the State of Alaska to review and evaluate claims in the amount of $614,073 submitted to the State of Alaska by Southwest Marine, Inc. Southwest Marine was the prime contractor on the project. The Sutor Group was also engaged to present the results of our findings as expert testimony in an administrative hearing.

Project description

The contract included refurbishment of the Alaska Marine Highway System's Ferry M/V Malaspina. Among other items, the work included refurbishment of passenger and crew accommodations, steal deck replacement and galley improvements.

Entitlement issues

Definition of "significant change" in contract requiring renegotiation of unit prices. Differing site conditions relating to deck insulation (duty for prebid inspection). Defective plans and specifications (galley equipment).

Type of impacts

Additional cost relating to changes in character of work and related labor delay and disruption costs. Extended home and project overhead.
